Richmond,
Virginia and its surrounding metropolitan
area is known as the "Region Easy To
Love", and it's easy to see why. Richmond was
voted one of America's Most Livable Communities, an
award presented every ten years by the non-profit
Partners for Livable
Communities, and was named by Forbes
magazine as the tenth best place in the nation for
starting a business or a career.
The entire area is steeped
in 400 years of U.S. history. Found in Richmond is
the St.
John's Church where Patrick Henry gave his
famous '...give me liberty or give me death' speech, which
ignited the Revolutionary War. Over twenty
five museums dot the city, paying tribute to its
vast and colorful past. The
Museum
of the Confederacy holds the largest
collection of Confederate articles in the world.
The Richmond
National Battlefield Park contains the sites of
eleven different campaigns fought there, and is 763
acres of historic ground set aside in commemoration of
the Civil War.
Historic Richmond, VA hasn't
stayed in the past, but has marched on brightly into
today's modern times. Six Fortune 500 companies
have made their homes here, including CSX
Railroad and Circuit
City, while six other Fortune 1000 firms are based
in Richmond. Low business overhead and a highly
educated workforce are two of the draws for
incoming businesses, as well as the high quality of
life, the wealth of cultural amenities and the pleasant,
gentle climate of the area.
Summer average temperatures
are a mild 76 degrees, while winter averages are 39
degrees. A scant 14 inches of snowfall make for a
comfortable winter, with 43 inches of rainfall allowing
the beautiful Richmond gardens to bloom.
The Port
of Richmond is a major domestic and
international distribution center, connecting rail and
truck shippers throughout the Mid-Atlantic
states. Richmond, VA is located halfway
between Maine and Florida. Interstate - 95, the
east coast's main transportation artery, along with
I-64, 81, 70 and 85 all being within proximity of
Richmond, combine to service the city. Half of The
United States' consumers and manufacturers are located
within 750 miles of the Port
of Richmond and more than 100 major freight
companies are based here. The Richmond
International Airport is one of the most modern
and well-equipped airports in the east.
Richmond's historic Fan
District, Shockhoe Slip and Shockhoe Bottom are all shopping
districts brimming with bistros, boutiques and
antique stores, alongside of the most modern retailers.
The city's night
life is vibrant, with music from all different
cultures, and restaurants with almost every ethnic
flavor. It's easy to see why Richmond, VA is a
place "Easy To Love".
